Reworks are relatively new things I get hit up for and I have to admit, they are a ton of fun. Case in point, this track for @matt.tondut + @deargravitymusic - you can stream it right now via the link in my bio.

I’ve been finding my groove with how to approach these reworks by loading all the stems into Ableton and listening through to the full mix but soloing out pieces that grab my ear on the fly. Whatever sounds the most interesting I take and use as the foundation for the new track.

In some cases this starter stem becomes just a texture or layer in the new cake I’m baking - in others it’s the entire motif. For “Static” the trumpet line really spoke to me because it felt like a rainy futuristic city scene. I also found the atmosphere stem with NYC MTA announcements really near and dear to my heart. I used a spatializer plugin to let that really emphasize the distance and space. Then enter the @4ms_company SWN bringing heavy and slow modulation through the wavetable which is a sound I just absolutely adore. And of course @moogsynthesizers Matriarch.

I’ve been really lucky to work with such high quality pieces over the past year which makes this rework process all the more rewarding.
