UNFOLDING
-
Feel your way into the present moment through a variety of ways. You may prefer to bring your attention to the feeling of your breath, recognizing that it exists within a body but that it is not of this body. Observe that you may feel as though you are above your breath, seated somewhere behind your face and inside your head. Alas, you’ve uncovered your first illusion, for you are not there because you are not you. The you you are experiencing is just a pattern of energy manifesting within consciousness - and therein lies your true essence, consciousness. You are the open space that recognizes your body, your breath, your thoughts. Do not mistake yourself for the flowing stream of thought rushing through the ocean of your mind. Be gentle with yourself, for you will forget. And when you do, remind yourself that you are here in the eternal now. You are within this present moment that is unfolding.
The musicians recommend you place headphones on and listen while in a darkened and quiet room, though wherever you most prefer to listen is the best location. Closing your eyes may result in occasional inner mind journeying, this is intentional.

TJ and Zac met while working at a recording studio in SoHo, NYC a few years back. TJ was the new hire to the studio and slowly migrated all of his pedal and gear into his room and once he was finally set up he started playing to test it all out.
The sounds pouring from the room caught the ear of Zac who wordlessly brought in a saxophone, his own pedal board, and a microphone - handing TJ a cable to plug into his own set of effects and the two began exploring.
TJ quietly hit record while they jammed - Zac playing sax and TJ playing the effect board as a mixer. It was through their mutual love for the ethereal that they bonded. They released the improvised collaborative jam as a record called “Chakobsa” and went on to perform multiple live and improvised records and shows as Voyager Collective. The two have continued to collaborate creatively and musically despite being in different physical locations for the past three years.
With “Unfolding,” the two went back to their earlier ways of performing; Zac improvising piano passages that were then sent to TJ to be effected, processed and rearranged through various modular pieces, effects, and synthesizers. TJ then passed back the newly formed pieces for Zac to incorporate additional layers of textures and voice which ultimately came back to TJ to finalize and mix.
The entire record took nine days.
